MAXIMIZING DONOR DOLLARS

Known as a first responder when disaster strikes, as well as a leading source of funding for long-term overseas development projects, World Vision Canada has a history of partnering with private donors and the government to address child rights, hunger and health.  Committed to keeping administrative costs low through reduced salaries, streamlined processes and other cost-saving measures, World Vision prides itself on maximizing donor dollars which go to assist more than 100 million people in nearly 100 countries.

Solution
In these economic times, competing for donor dollars has never been more difficult. Four distinct teams operate across World Vision Canada to support the unique opportunities provided by each of the following groups:

  • Donors
  • Artists and Churches
  • Planned Giving
  • Events

Each of these siloed groups were running on disparate, competitive technologies that could not exchange information. As a donor could exist in all systems, a complete picture of an individual’s total relationship with World Vision was not available to the staff members interacting with the donor. This led to fractured conversations and missed opportunities. Government sponsored “matched giving” campaigns were not capitalized on. Forecasting was impossible so that sales and marketing campaigns were not as effective or expedient as they could be.

Navantis met with the team from World Vision Canada and listened. They clarified the problem and suggested a widened scope so that World Vision Canada could experience dramatic improvements harmonized by reduced operational costs. Navantis recommended consolidating all four competing CRM solutions into a single platform, eliminating Lotus Notes and capitalizing on the existing investment in SharePoint. They introduced Exchange for a seamless communication experience and integrated into the AS400 for a total view of the donor including all of their financial transactions and giving history.

Outcome
World Vision has retired Razor’s Edge, ACT, Luxor, a custom-built legacy application and Lotus Notes, dramatically reducing associated operational, maintenance and training costs. They have leveraged their investment in Microsoft technology by deploying Dynamics CRM, SharePoint and Exchange. Every donor is now clearly visible to each team in all roles. For example, an individual may sponsor a child, participate as a church representative or attend specific events such as concerts. The staff at World Vision is now aware of this and any meetings, conversations and direct mail reflect this new understanding. Donors appreciate the new insight and donations have increased as a result.

They have integrated with the AS400 so that a complete financial picture of the donor’s history is available. Forecasting is now possible, enabling the management team to make better decisions around sales and marketing campaigns, target accounts, geographies and other fund-raising activities. This information further reduces operational costs by increasing the success rates of undertakings.

Finally, World Vision Canada has been able to act as a pilot for World Vision global, providing a real-world opportunity for other divisions to learn from best practice and model after the Canadian implementation of technology.

CUSTOMER QUOTE

“As the CIO, my job is to provide enabling technologies that maximize our potential to address the needs of children around the world at the lowest adoptive cost. Our people can’t struggle with technology – they need to focus on finding, educating and collaborating with donors – so that we can continue to fund and implement the life-saving programs established in the field. Navantis helped us consolidate many siloed supporter management databases into one centralized record using Microsoft Dynamics CRM. This solution will enable our donor and volunteer teams to access a complete view of every World Vision contact meaning they have the knowledge they need to perform at the highest levels, ensuring our commitment to a global village can be met.”
