INTERNAL SUPPORT FOR A FAST-GROWING CITY

THE CHALLENGE: OVERTAXED SYSTEMS

The City of Vaughan's city employees had the potential for increased productivity, internal communications and cost-savings, greater control over complex business requirements and workflow, in turn, better service for citizens. The existing intranet was built in ColdFusion, which limited the ability to use the site to share information and facilitate workflow processes. IT staff were overtaxed from supporting the entire organization's internal document publishing needs.

THE REWARD: WORKING RESOURCES

Working with the City, Navantis developed an intranet solution using Microsoft Exchange Server and Microsoft SharePoint Server 2003 as the publishing and collaboration platform.

City employees can:
  • Set up meetings and allocate rooms through a busy/free indicator and real-time calendar
  • Synchronize calendars (e.g. council calendar, submission schedule, city, community and staff events) through a single view
  • Interact through a social forum with postings and clubs
  • Adhere to formats and standards through advanced document library workflow
"With the help of Navantis, we have implemented a solution that saves valuable time for city employees and in turn saves tax dollars for our citizens and the business community. Our users are very excited about the new time-saving tools that are available to them...and the ability to easily share information, which helps staff get things done much more quickly."
